clean out of your head

Tonight was spent on the couch watching movies while I tried to multi-task on my computer. I got pretty distracted by this movie on TV called "Slaughter" from 1972. There was a rad pool scene, so so good. The tag line for the movie is, Slaughter will blow your mind... clean out of your head!

I found these links while TV watching and not working on the things I was supposed to
"
This website is my new crack. This is a rad art project. A tree house still seems more dreamy but this floating house has a sweet view. I can't decide if I like this a lot or not, but I love the part with the seed going through the paper body.

My mom used to recite this to me~

There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was very, very good,
But when she was bad, she was horrid.

Solved Family Mysteries

This past Sunday there was an article in the New York Times about my Great Grandpa Harry Levine. It's pretty awesome to see him get some recognition after so long....Read it HERE.

Great Grandpa Harry Levine in the NY Times this Sunday!

A goodie via the Rockers NYC blog. Reminds me to dig this album out of the piles.

And a very happy birthday to Wiskate.com for making it 10 years. That's pretty solid dudes, especially this post from Josh.

Oeuvre

A project I've wanted to do for some time.

A few of my favorite things #1
1. One of two hand-painted cobras given to me from Doug R.
2. Smashed fly pin from Pete Hodapp
3. Harmonica collection
4. Photo filters from India (saving them for the perfect project someday)
5. Old sequined coin purse
6. Model teeth mounted to display strips with wax
7. Buffalo nickel buttons from my dad's old flannel shirt from when I was a kid

In the most recent issue of Vanity Fair there is an article about the Y.S.L auction that is occurring in February. Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge had one of the most amazing collections in the world. A few bits too good to not share:

".....We all would very much like to attend our own funeral; of course, we can't. But we can attend the funeral of a collection. It's the end. It's over."

"I don't believe in God. I only believe in human beings, in memory. That's all. The memory will persist."
- Pierre Berge

I especially love the lacy Styrofoam burger container on this meal deal. If only I could get something besides subs and icky Chinese delivered to me at work. Ideally, it would be sushi, Thai or a good salad- not burgers and fries.

Thank you. Image from "Le Chalet"

it is what it is or whatever

"What are you doing?" is the worst question ever.

I have no idea what I am doing or what motivates me. But I do know that right now I miss the golden hour and time to sit and do nothing. This morning I forgot I had a photo shoot for the cover of a magazine. Those pictures are going to be awesome.

Howev's tis' the season to tell people about Tio de Nadal (the pooping log), one of our favorite discoveries while in Spain a few years ago.

And, holy shit check out these amazing photos of snow angels via My Love For You blog.

So.......just find me in the middle of nowhere in India in a few years, that IS the plan you know. But in the mean time, I'll just be on the couch watching Freaky Friday, the 1977 version with Jodie Foster of course.

Wonky Honkey: for Sarah

Last week I finally made it over the the War Room to get my portrait taken by the one JW Lawson. The building that Lawson is in, right down the street from me, is this amazing old school building that I had never been in before. I've always coveted it. It also used to have some of my favorite murals in the city adorning the sides, now residing in mural heaven. I never got a proper photo of the one side that I loved the most. Before Bob moved away last year I discovered he had a Polaroid of it, which is now in my possession.

I've had a copy of Gorden Henderson's calendar in my home for over 5 years. I love his creepy style and added notes on insignificant days. This year he donated some calendars to the Handmade Nation Etsy site. Pick one up there or here.
I started a new list (to your right) of artists who's work I own. Like most things in list format, it's very satistifying. This is just off the top of my head while downstairs at work, haven't even looked around while sitting in my studio (where the flat files are) or upstairs at home.

And, nothing like a bar Polaroid of you and your Milwaukee's best. Sarah had a very specific vision for this photo, we took it 4 times.

wonder where those 40 degrees went?

P.S. I LOVE this

P.P.S. I was on NPR this weekend

P.P.P.S. These always make me wonder if I know who it is, it seems likely that I do

And, Mary Ellen Mark has never done anything besides amazing. One time I was standing in the same gallery as her and it was the only time I ever felt so star-struck that I couldn't say hi.

I can't read your thoughts loud enough

Yesterday was later and longer then the last. I think that when we approach the winter solstice and the days get so short the darkness just takes over and night and day become one.

Becca's house is the only home I know that is just as densely packed as mine, I never mind ending up there at 4 am.

Our roof is leaking, the car barley works and this morning in a blurry walk down the hallway my phone somehow slipped out of my sleepy paws and shattered. I spent what was going to be a productive hung-over morning working at the stupid mall battling with the apple store and somehow leaving with a pair of jeans to boot. Luckily, the rest of my day was redeemed with the presence of Solana who can make any crappy bar worth sitting in.

a sandwich before bed

Sometimes a lady just stays up too late.
Last night was the Comet holiday party. We were all disappointed that someone we did not know won the 48 cases of Pabst in the shape of a Christmas tree, however the entertainment was tops....

This weekend brings visits from two ladies I couldn't love more from my past. Today Cindy is driving down from Madison to check out the show at Paper Boat & have lunch. Tomorrow, Solana rolls in with the Faint, and we actually get to hang out all day before she has to be at the show. Solana is the only person I know who travels more then me. The last time I saw her was in NY and the time before that was in Spain.

Solana was my roommate when I was 18 along with Nick who now owns renowned catering company in NY called Bite. Nick launched a new company this week called Bake Sale, I designed the logo for him. If I can figure out where to have the after party for my NY premier of Handmade Nation Nick has offered to cater it for me. I gotta get on that.

The ships that Clisson purchased were painted all black on her command, and the sails dyed red.

Hot air balloons similar in my mind to submarines, are both totally spell casting and terrifying at the same time. What could make you feel more trapped? As a kid at Disneyland the submarine voyage ride (now closed) was one of my favorites.

Another kid-time favorite was Bedknobs and Broomsticks full of witchcraft, animation and otherworldly adventure.

I really think you're swell

Pretty much the best camp movie eves

Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah
Why don't you and I combine?
Let's get together, what do you say?
We can have a swinging time
We'd be a crazy team
Why don't we make a scene?
Together, oh oh oh oh

Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah
Think of all that we could share
Let's get together, everyday
Every way and everywhere
And though we haven't got a lot
We could be sharing all we've got
Together

Oh! I really think you're swell
Uh huh! We really ring the bell
Oo wee! And if you stick with me
Nothing could be greater, say 'hey alligator'

Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah
Two is twice as nice as one
Let's get together, right away
We'll be having twice the fun
And you can always count on me
A gruesome twosome we will be
Let's get together, yeah yeah yeah!

staring into the white of winter

I didn't even leave my compound today. Feeling totally irritated and luckily there is a nice bottle of wine Sam left us last time he stayed to ease my woe's, the label reads "wildmen" which is nice. I did however make a batch of soup, which is always a good thing. The house smells warm, salty and full of garlic.

I did have a sweet chat with Annie this morning. She was at work on some shoot and there was a roar of extras in the background.

And, I posted these stained glass pictures I took a while back that are creepy as hell:

Watch THIS. Robbie Cooper's blog is pretty worth a second.

Read the vulnerability manifesto.

Do you remember the magazine the drama that was around for a hot second? It was my favorite. Now Joel does this stuff.

a drive through braintree

It's after midnight and I am waiting for my clothes to dry so I can pack and leave at six am. My once very carefully planned life has snowballed into back to back chaotic plans, and I did really just dump my unpacked suitcase from Atlanta into the wash to repack for Boston & Providence.

Tomorrow's route after I land.

Tonight Lisa's show had a great turn-out even though the night was cold as could be. Early on before it got dark

Lisa & I

Lisa, Nathan, Jordan & Jess somehow all discovered that all four of them are missing their toenail on their big toe on their right foot. So gross and so bizarre.

I would please like to have one of these when I wake up tomorrow. Dreamy.

Speaking of which, I am constantly dreaming of islands of late- the non-tropical ones. Full of pockets of moss and trees. Homesick for the west coast I guess, or something. AND, not only am I going to Australia for Handmade Nation at the end of February for two weeks (found out yesterday), but I got an email from Sweden today about being involved in a show there in September. More on both soon. Sweden, never been.
