HOME AGAIN HOME AGAIN

Two weeks ago after 6 weeks away I took the Amtrak from Seattle to Milwaukee with the luxury of a sleeper car (thanks mom!) As my life often seems to dish out wild synchronicity it just so happened  the director Albert Maysles was shooting a documentary about train travel on the trip. We had a late night on camera discussion about inspiration, process and never retiring if you are continually inspired. I also crossed paths with artist Angela Zammarelli & her dude (wrote your name down & now can't find it...classic) which was nice to talk with some like minded folks over breakfast in the dining car. My wild hair decision to throw a party the day after I got back for all the women in my life to fill my home with amazingness panned out to be a very good decision. Cortney pointed out the next day that there was only a single photo posted on the internet from all night (by yours truly) which seemed to logically point at the fact so much conversation was happening no one was on their phones. One of the best observations and compliments a hostess could get. Let me tell you that the volume of 20+ women all catching up can be something else.  And why not take an immediate weekend winter adventure with Kelsey to to see Cate Le Bon in Madison & catch the Anonymous Choir perform in Minneapolis.

2014 the year to reconnect and draw all sorts of amazingness closer is off to a very good start.

Samish Bay

Pacific North West you get under my skin, make my hair giant and frizzy and I will always come back to you again and again. Spent the past week house sitting for my mom and her husband which basically consisted of watching their dog Charlie, collecting chicken eggs and lots of walks around Bow/Edison. I got some surprise sun and some amazing downtime while visiting.

Next stop, heading back to Milwaukee for a short stint!

The New Ideal // We Are Thankful

Spent a lot of time the past week wandering downtown Birmingham exploring the alley's and empty buildings. It reminds me of the emptiness of Milwaukee in a way. It's hard to not daydream about better use of space, envisioning what would fit well in all the different storefronts and stacks of old office spaces. If only it was up to us.

Rang the new year in with dancing at the Quest with every type of human possible. The best way. Then somehow managed to rise up early enough for a day hike in the Sipsey wilderness. Really couldn't of asked for much better way to start a year off. Laughs that left us lighter in the sun.

I'm now back in my stomping grounds of the Pacific Northwest where I'm visiting my folks. Although I haven't been living here for over 15 years somehow it will always be home. It's wild how the landscape quickly changes and spots disappear, even here in the burbs. On my walk to get coffee this morning I noticed new streets that didn't exist before and the octagonal shaped Sharri's where we spent late nights drinking coffee in high school is now a ugly condo. I wandered under the train trestle where Becky Nelson and I found a pipe in 8th grade and after much debate we ended up leaving it there, both afraid to bring it home.

This adult perspective still catches me off guard sometimes. I was thinking this morning about how when we would be driving through Orange County when I was a kid and my mom would go on about how "this all used to be orange groves" and I'd probably roll my eyes or say something snotty like "I know mom, you told me that before." It's burned in my brain her talking about the orange groves, she lived down a dirt road in them once if I remember correctly. But now it makes sense to me. Growing up is fucking weird.

See you soon Alabama.
