Halloween 2010: Fallen Trapeze Artist

I love Halloween, I love a good costume & I love attention to detail. My favorite costumes from my past I dressed up as are: Evil Tooth Fairy, Medusa, Feral Cave Girl and Fortune Teller.

This year I decided on Fallen Trapeze Artist inspired by a pair of vintage hot pants I've been toting around with me for, oh you know, about 10 years. Aaron constructed my rope & bar that I wound around my neck, added some bloody hand prints and the all I really needed was a good bruised face. Voila, as fallen as I was going to get.

I always struggle getting a good photo of my own costume. A few others from my night with my friends are here.

Celebrating Life & Death

Friday afternoon I snuck away from the gallery to go check out the first Dia De Los Muertos parade in Milwaukee in 10 years. It was a beautiful, successful well attended community event. The parade started at the United Community Center ending at Walker's Point Center for the Arts where their was traditional Aztec dancing outside and inside WPCA had traditional shrines Dia De Los Muertos shrines installed by community members to remember those who have passed & celebrate their lives.

Service Industry Sale

When Kim & I owned Paper Boat we realized that the best advertisement for us wasn't in the paper, it was the people who bought stuff from us and wore it to work. Soon after we would get someone in saying my waitresses// bartenders// hair stylist was wearing this "so and so" & BAM like that, we'd have a new customer.

With that lesson learned, Sky High will be having 3 surprise sales saying thanks to our service industry customers while the pop-up boutique is being hosted in the back. That means between now and December 31st. To stay on top of sales I suggest following either myself or the shop on twitter or facebook.

Full Moon + 500 Jack-o-lantern's

Last night we stopped by the lighting of the pumpkins at Humboldt Park. The Pumpkin Pavilion is an annual event, but I've never made it there before. It was awesome, ton's of neighborhood people were out, kids were giddy talking about costumes and beers were consumed. Nothing like 500+ jack-o-lantern's to get you in the Halloween spirit.

Tomorrow begins 3 months of: "Lend Us Your Everything"

I've been back from Bali 9 days. Tomorrow is the grand opening of the pop-up boutique at Sky High Gallery that I curated (press release here). If you live or visit Milwaukee in the next 3 months you should really swing by to check it out. We are open 6 days a week (shut Tuesdays) located in the back of Sky High Skateboard Shop in the Bay View neighborhood.

If you make it in, do check out the amazing zine that Sofia Arnold put together in association with the mural she painted for us titled "Lend Us Your Everything". I'm basically her #1 fan right now.

See you tomorrow....

Bali: part 3

Bali --> Taipei --> Los Angeles --> Memphis --> Milwaukee

Sometimes things become timeless. The amount of travel involved getting home from this trip is intense. I pretty much feel removed from my body at this point. I'm waiting for my third flight, almost home. It's worth it though. Yesterday on facebook I wrote: "sometimes you love a place so much you buy a ticket back before you even leave." Aaron & I will be spending his 38th birthday in Ubud in April (although, that trip will involve one layover, not 3). Until then, I leave you with these last picks of my trip out of many, as always there is a link to the full photo set at the bottom of this post.

Back to work tomorrow. The Sky High pop-up shop opens in 11 days, lots and lots to do until then. Link to the full photo set at the bottom of this post per usual. Oh Bali...sigh.
