Today's special: hot mess

These are both good things, very different from one another, but very good.

I would feel very comfy and curl up here this evening, instead I'm off to work at the bar. Found on this site about the most interesting book stores of the world by flickr.com user Glynnis Ritchie

Be happy while you are living.....

.....for you're a long time dead.

this says "exist"

I found a really amazing book by Australian photographer Gal Missingham at the flea market yesterday. It's in my favorite photo journalistic style of the mid 60's to 70's.

Off to teach a class at Craft Victoria with not one, but two bags under my blue eyes.

You may blurt out the truth before you can stop

Above header written by my father, it's the Scorpio horoscope of the day.

I love this, it's over at 20x200:

I just had the best night. Went to the opening of Viva La Craft here in Melbourne at Craft Victoria. Then dinner at this amazing restaurant next to the gallery called Cumulus with Alex from Chicks on Speed, who I last saw in Germany and her amazing friend Abigail. Abi is the director for Third Drawer Down, an incredible space/business/gallery/concept. After our amazing dinner we swung by her shop for an after hours visit and I got some really great stuff including a set of limited edition pillowcases by an Australian artist named Dylan Martorell and some presents for peeps at home. She also gave me this amazing piece they did for Louise Bourgeois and the Tate, info on this piece here.

Here is Melissa in Third Drawer Down as we were leaving tonight.

We are all very tired. Photos tomorrow, or today, depending where you are reading this.....

Affogato
Our host Ryan orders a round of Affogato before we were all asked to leave the tapas resturant Two Buoys. He says "It's all the things I love in my face". They were really good.

Later on in the night he proceeds to perform an amazing dance to "I Ran So Far Away"

Poolside
Today, a much needed poolside revival in the sun

It's time for a very busy work week here down under.....

dog-headed pouched one

new boots + new candy
New aussie boots + new aussie candy.

Off for a drive up the Great Ocean Road this weekend with Jess & BJ. I've been in Melbourne for 5 days already and it will be nice to have a change of scenery. Back with new "great ocean" photos in a few short days.

Yesterday I went to see Watchmen at the IMAX, good times. Found this while looking up Rorschach and was reminded of some great art by Micaela's son Thurman:

Black air and seven seas all rotten through

Thank goodness Jess and BJ are coming into the city tonight, only day three alone and I'm already taking pictures of myself jumping on the bed in my hotel. It's too rainy to go adventuring by foot right now so I'm trying to get work done in between interviews and a photo shoot. Maybe it's time for a swim in ye ol' pool? I just called home with skype for the first time, that is pretty wild. Welcome to 2009 Faythe (that's me talking to myself). Yupppppp.

16 degrees = 60 degrees

Today it was gray and windy as all hell, but balmy and hot. I took advantage of nothing to do and walked around Melbourne for hours.

this alley had this magical sound
Those of you who have been here already know that it's not just a regular street by street exploring system to be had in the city, there are all these alley's and side streets that have tiny shops and restaurants to find. As I was walking with no particular direction I stumbled into this alley drawn in by the graffiti (rampant everywhere). At first I thought there was some sort of unseen wind chime I couldn't see, but then I realized there were these bell type things (see below) that were installed down the entire length of the strip (picture a whole city block) that were somehow generating this gong/chime type sound. It was so meditative and beautiful, I walked through the alley slowly and really tried to figure out if there was a pattern with the sound or not.... it seemed to be random and it was an amazing sound installation.

this alley had this magical sounds coming out of these.

Milk Bar
{Milk Bar = corner store}

This is very mysterious
There was no sign of any clues, just Australian mystery.

I pass this park to and from the hotel
Even in the extreme drought there is the lushness that exists.

Melbourne street graffiti
You are on your way, right?
